Terrorists belonging to the Boko Haram sect are planning to expand their frontiers of attack to Jos, the Plateau State capital and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, the Nigerian Police Force has said.

This development was contained in a letter emanating from the office of the Inspector-General of Police and addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Plateau State command.

The letter titled ‘Terrorist elements to expand frontiers of attack’ revealed that the attacks will be coordinated by one Muhammed Sani, a Boko Haram commander stationed in Sambisa Forest, Borno State and another Lawan Musa Zango who is based in Gashua, Yobe state.

The report which was sent out on May 9, 2021, read in part, “Intelligence report at the disposal of the IGP has uncovered plans by Boko Haram terrorists to attack major cities in the country, particularly in Jos, Plateau State and the FCT, Abuja.”

The police boss urged the commissioner to review the security status of the state and take appropriate measures.

Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States, all in the North-East region, have remained a stronghold of the insurgents for slightly over a decade.

In 2014, the insurgents claimed responsibility for a twin bomb blast that rock the Terminus market in the Jos City Centre. In the same year, the group also launched attacks at the popular Bannex Plaza and the Nyanya motor pack in Abuja.

All incidents resulted in scores of deaths.
