The governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Anambra gubernatorial election, Senator Andy Uba has reacted to the victory of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the Anambra gubernatorial election. According to Andy Uba, the just concluded gubernatorial election in Anambra state was marred by a lot of irregularities, intimidation and voter suppression, in a bid to clear the path for the victory of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and APGA. With this, the senator have vowed to pursue his “stolen mandate” to the limits allowed by the law.

Meanwhile, INEC have been celebrated by many Nigerians for the peaceful conduct of a free and fair election in Anambra state. May political experts have already described the election as the most peaceful election conducted by INEC in recent times and it could be more satisfying if such peaceful process could be replicated during the forthcoming 2023 general elections. The governorship candidate of APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo emerged winner of the election after polling 112,229 votes and securing highest votes in 19 local governments out of the 21 local governments that made up Anambra state.

Since his emergency as the winner of the gubernatorial polls in Anambra state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has received congratulatory messages from well meaning Nigerians including the president of the country, president Muhammadu Buhari. Interestingly, his opponents during the Anambra gubernatorial election, Ifeanyi Ubah and Valentine Ozigbo have also sent in their congratulatory messages and urged other contestants to work with Soludo for the development of Anambra state. However, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress who finished third with a total votes of 43,285, is of the view that his mandate was stolen.

According to Andy Uba, there are five circumstances to show that the election was not free and fair.

1. INEC conducted election manually when the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) failed to work

Andy Uba argues that in most polling units where the BVAS failed to capture voters, the INEC officials used a manual means to conduct election in such polling units.

2. Votes announced by INEC exceeded the number of accredited voters in some polling units

3. The publication of election results on the social media handles of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) even before official announcement by INEC

According to Andy Uba, most of these election results published on APGA’s social media handles were mysteriously consistent with INEC’s official results.

4. How Can Andy Uba, who polled over 200,000 votes during APC’s primary election, poll 43,285 in the main election?

5. How Can APGA secure victory despite the massive defections that hit the party before the election?

Andy Uba argues that the All Progressives Grand Alliance do not have the structure to win the election after the party was hit by massive defections of it’s stalwarts. It could be recalled that before the election, the deputy governor of Anambra state, 6 State Assembly members, a federal lawmaker, among others, defected to APC. Despite these defections, APGA emerged victorious. This is puzzling to Andy Uba and that is part of the major five reasons why he is not satisfied with the election results.
