A member of the House of Representatives, Ben Igbakpa on Tuesday opened up on how President Muhammadu Buhari got him detained at the airport for four hours on the allegation that he is a major sponsor of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).t

This revelation is coming on the heels of Buhari who noted in his Independence Day speech that the government is pursuing IPOB’s financiers, including a member of the National Assembly.

Igbakpa claimed that a Ghanian official informed him that Ghana had been placed on high alert to prevent Nigerian politicians from seeking asylum in the country.

He said this during a plenary session in the house

“On Saturday, I had to honor a wedding invitation in Ghana, Mr Speaker, and you will be amazed at what I experienced at the hands of Ghanaian officials. They held me for four hours, claiming they needed to confirm something.

“I stayed at the airport for four hours, missed the wedding I was supposed to attend, and at the end of the day, one of them walked up to me and said sorry sir, there has been an announcement in Nigeria that a member of parliament is sponsoring terrorism, and we have been placed on red alert to ensure that no member of parliament comes here to hide or cause trouble,” Igbakpa said.

Igbakpa went on to say that instead of casting all of the lawmakers as suspects, the president should have named the person who was involved.

The House therefore decided that the president should name and prosecute the person who is funding IPOB.
