Former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retired), on Monday denied having any connection with bandits or terrorists group in Niger State.

The former Military Head of State disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday through his spokesperson, saying the news was false and baseless.

It was alleged that General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retired) is the owner of the helicopter that supplies foods and weapons to bandits and terrorists in the state.

According to the “Daily Times” report, General Abdulsalami initially wanted to ignore the report, but for the sake of public interest considerations, he freed himself from crime and pointed out that the news might aggravate the already tense insecurity in the state.

The former military Head of State urged Nigerians to ignore such rebellious behavior and be cautious of the information they spread and share on social media.

Therefore, he advised Nigerians to continue working and pray for lasting peace in the country.

Fake news is quickly becoming an epidemic in Nigeria, people quickly circulate news on social media not minding weather the news is from a reliable source. It scares and angers me as an opera content creator how often and how quickly fabricated stories circulate. What displeases me the more is the effect that fake news has on readers. With so much false information, social media users are skeptical and it erodes the trust they should have in the media.
