According to reports by Nairametrics, Elon Musk is making moves through one of his companies, SpaceX, to enter the Nigerian market.

SpaceX, a privately-owned space exploration company founded by the billionaire entrepreneur, is currently working out necessary modalities towards securing the needed licenses to bring Starlink Satellite Internet Service into Nigeria.

According to the statement by Mr Ryan Goodnight, Starlink’s Market Access Director for Africa, the company has been holding virtual meetings with the Nigeria Communication Commission for some months in a bid to secure required approvals to be able to start operations in Nigeria.

It was also gathered that NCC had granted SpaceX a face-to-face meeting after the many virtual meetings, during which NCC listened to SpaceX’s presentation.

In their response after the presentation, NCC said that as a regulatory agency, they would have to go back and review the presentation, to come up with a response and position that guarantees the nation’s interest.

Recall that Elon Musk through his privately owned company (SpaceX), became the first privately owned company to successfully launch humans into space in May 2020.

It transported two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule.

Starlink is the company’s internet service project that has the goal of improving global internet coverage, particularly in underserved and rural areas.

Are we going to see the entry of such a huge American company into Nigeria soon? Only time will tell.
