Bandits have released the remaining 29 students abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in Kaduna State, Channels Television is reporting.

This development was confirmed by Mr Abdullahi Usman, the Chairman of the Parents’ Committee, on Wednesday in Kaduna.

Usman explained that the victims were released some minutes past 4 pm around the Kidanda area in Giwa Local Government Area of the state, and were on their way back to the state capital.

He, however, refused to disclose the amount paid as ransom to the bandits for the release of the students.

It would be recalled that on March 11, 2021 bandits invaded the school located in Afaka along the Kaduna International Airport Road and abducted 39 students.

The bandits demanded N500 million as ransom for their release.

Ten of the 39 abductees were earlier released by their abductors in batches of five each.

A parent of one of the abducted students on Tuesday, had claimed Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, had introduced them to a negotiator whom they N800m to facilitate the release of the students.

This comment generated outrage with many Nigerians questioning where Gumi’s patriotism lies.

In reaction, parents of the kidnapped students said rather than point an accusing finger the Islamic scholar of being complicit in the banditry ravaging the country, Nigerians should commend the cleric for his interventions in seeking the release of abducted persons in the country.

They also claimed the government and the security forces know the whereabouts of the bandits and their children but lacked the will power to rescue them.
