Andy Uba, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the upcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election on Monday said he influenced the appointment of Charles Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in 2004.

Andy Uba made this disclosure during the Anambra election debate organised by Arise TV and Enough is Enough.

Speaking during the debate Senator Uba who is an in-law of President Olusegun Obasanjo slammed Soludo, accusing him of being ungrateful after he allegedly recommended him to Obasanjo for an appointment for the post of CBN Governor.

According to him, despite Obasanjo referencing him as the reason for Soludo’s appointment when some traditional rulers came to the Villa on a thank-you visit, Soludo never showed the needed appreciation.

He said, “When he (Soludo) became the CBN Governor, he came to my house to say thank you.

“Also, when five Igwes [traditional rulers] came to thank the President after the appointment, he [Obasanjo] told them to go thank me instead.”

On the other hand, Soludo maintained that he never knew Andy Uba until former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili introduced them at the Presidential villa.

It could be recalled that Professor Soludo was the CBN governor from 2004 to 2009 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
