Social Media influencer Ismail Mustapha aka Mompha has demanded that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) retract alleged libelous publications made against him.

Mompha warned that unless the anti-graft agency tendered an unreserved apology in 14 days, he would seek exemplary damages against it.

He made the demands in a September 13 letter written by his counsel Gboyega Oyewole (SAN).

“Our instruction is that via a recent online publication, the EFCC through its image maker, Wilson Uwujaren made a libellous and defamatory statement concerning our client, Mr Ismaila Mustapha,” Oyewole said.

According to him, the agency had been maliciously and falsely describing his client as “a notorious internet fraudster” and an accomplice of a Lebanese cybercrime convict, Hamza Koudeih.

Mompha, on August 18, 2020, demanded N5million from the EFCC in a suit filed by Oyewole challenging his fresh arrest and detention.

He and his firm, Ismalob Global Investment Ltd, were on March 4, 2020, re-arraigned before Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos on 22 counts of alleged money laundering and cyber fraud.

They were first arraigned on a 14-count charge last November 25, following his arrest last October 19, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Mompha pleaded not guilty and is out on bail.
