Mr Iboi Lucky who happens to be the the Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate has requested that the Edo election petition tribunal declare the 2020 gubernatorial null and void.
According to the petitioning party and the candidate, Onogheghase Obaseki, the incumbent governor of Edo state and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, presented fake certificates to contest for the elections.
In a court suit labeled EPT/ED/GOV/01/2020, the independent national electoral commission (INEC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, All progressive Congress (APC) and Andrew Osagie Ize-Iyamu were all enlisted as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th respondents in the case respectively.
Revealing their reasons, the Action Democratic Party and candidate Iboi Lucky noted that the certificate that Edo state incumbent governor presented to INEC in his affidavit deposed and presented in the form labelled CF001 in 2016 was signed by the vice chancellor and Registrar of the university of Ibadan respectively.
However, according to the petitioners, the certificate that Obaseki provided in the same form submitted to INEC in 2020, only carried the signatory of the vice chancellor that died in 2015. They further argued that it was not possible for a dead man to sign a re-issued certificate in 2020.
So the petitioners demanded that the tribunal should declare that governor Obaseki was not qualified to contest the election in the first place did because he presented a forged certificate to INEC along with his form labelled EC9. So therefore, all the votes credited to Governor Obaseki should be declared null and void and the election should be nullified. This is indeed great troubles for Obaseki.
