Tinubu was the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and he is one of the core leaders of Nigeria’s ruling party. While many may not have noticed, there is a particular symbol which is embroidered on most of Bola Tinubu’s caps which he has continued to carry for many years.
If you check the pictures below you will find the symbol on different caps worn by the APC chief.
The design in question looks like a unconnected figure “8” has quite a deep meaning to Bola Tinubu based on his explanation.
During an interview with Sun publishing limited, led by the Managing Director/ Editor in-Chief, Mr. Eric Osagie in 2016, which was held at Tinubu’s Freedom House Office at Victoria Island in Lagos State, Bola Tinubu explained the meaning behind the unique design on many of his caps.
The interviewer asked Bola Tinubu, “This your cap has become your trademark; we do not know what it is. If you place it down, anybody who sees it would identify it as yours; how did you come about the design?”
Even the signboard with his office address has the symbol
In response to this question, Tinubu said, “Philosophically, it is my belief and faith in education, freedom fighting. On my cap is a broken shackle. It is freedom. The shackle is broken and you cannot put us in bondage anymore. You have broken the shackle of poverty, ignorance, disease,”
He added, “You develop the capacity to improve the quality of the lives of the people. It has been my philosophy and it will remain my philosophy.
My office’s symbol is Freedom House. Freedom means everything to me, the freedom of man. You can find me on the street fighting against injustice.”
The mega Party merger notably birthed by Bola Tinubu and other top Nigerian Politicians gave birth to All progressives Congress (APC), the party which produced Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s President in 2015 and his second term in 2019.
The Lagos State politician believes he is a fighter for democracy, while some may beg to differ on that opinion.
