Seven Military Officers Arrested For Supporting Bandits In Zamfara
The Zamfara State Government has revealed that seven serving military officers have been arrested by the state police command for conniving with bandits and supplying logistics and weapons to them. The state Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, disclosed this in Gusau, adding that nine military bulletproofs, four sets of military camouflage uniforms and a Nigerian Army Identity card were some of the exhibits recovered by the police from the bandits and their collaborators. The commissioner explained that the military personnel had already been interrogated by the police, saying that many of the suspects made confessional statements on their respective crimes. NULGE Plans Protests, Says, Nine Governors Diverting Local Government Funds
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees has alleged that about nine governors are diverting local government funds in violation of the guideline issued by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit in May 2019. The union said on Friday that the governors' actions were depriving the people of the benefits that they should ordinarily have access to, as it threatened to shut down the 774 councils in the country if their demands were not met within 30 days. Nigeria Face More Economic Woes As Inflation Rate Hits 18.17%
Nigeria's inflation rate rose from 17.33% recorded in February to 18.17% in the month of March. In the latest report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the Headline index increased by 1.56% in March 2021, this is 0.02% points higher than the rate recorded in February 2021 (1.54 percent). Food inflation, a closely watched index spiked to 22.95% from 21.79% recorded in the previous month. On a month-on-month basis, the food sub-index increased by 1.9% in March 2021, up by 0.01% points from 1.89% recorded in February 2021. The rise in the food index was caused by increases in prices of Bread and cereals, Potatoes, yam, and other tubers, Meat, Vegetables, Fish, Oils and fats, and fruits.
