Irish pound-for-pound UFC fighter, Conor McGregor (@NotoriousMMA) has announced his retirement from combat sports.

McGregor, 31, revealed this on his official twitter page to his 8.1 million followers.

The former welterweight champion said: “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it has been!

”Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you.”

The former UFC star also added “Whatever you desire it’s yours,” to encourage his fans to pursue their dreams.

McGregor’s braggadocios personality both on and off the cage made him one of the most controversial and sought-after fighters in the UFC.

Conor debuted in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in April, 2013. With a UFC career spanning seven years, the former lightweight champion has a blistering record of 22 wins and 4 losses making a total of 26 professional bouts.

Before he announced his retirement, the Irish fighter was scheduled to face current Nigerian UFC Welterweight Champion Kamaru Usman later in the year.

Fight fans are still skeptical as to whether his retirement from the sport the Irish fighter loves so much is genuine, however, if it’s real, he will greatly be missed.
