ANGELA MERKEL’S own party could be at risk of the coronavirus following the suspected infection of a party member.
According to the German newspaper, Thuringer Allgemeine, the MP has now been placed into quarantine.
A spokesman for the State Health Minister said on Tuesday the MP had recently returned from a skiing holiday before holding the parliamentary meeting.

Northern Italy has seen the highest number of cases in Europe and with the suspected case in the CDU, there is now fear the contagion could spread.
The suspected case could also threaten the upcoming election in the German state of Thuringia.
A new election on the state’s prime minister was due to be held on Wednesday but could now be in doubt if the suspected case comes back positive.
There have been 188 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Germany although there have been no reports of any mortalities.
Germany’s interior minister, Horst Seehofer, refused to shake hands with the Chancellor due to the outbreak during a meeting this week.
President of Germany’s Robert Koch Institute, Lothar Wieler said the situation in Germany had developed “very dynamically”.
The majority of the cases had been pinpointed to the North Rhine-Westphalia region.
The area is one Germany’s most populated and as a result, several schools were closed earlier this week to contain the spread.
In the UK, there have been a total of 51 confirmed cases which caused the Government to draw up an emergency plan.

“We have agreed a plan, which I will set out in detail, so if the virus should spread, we are ready to take necessary steps to contain it and protect the most vulnerable.”
Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned of the potential of “economic and social downside” of the virus.
He also warned closing down cities could not be taken “off the table at this stage because you have to make sure you have all the tools available if that is what is necessary”.
Mr Hancock added: “The plan for now is really clear; which is wash your hands and if you have a cough or a sneeze to catch it, and to follow the public health advice if you travel to one of the most affected areas.”
